Choosing Hip Replacement After Years of Hip Pain
“I was always very active in sports, and as I aged out of high school and into adulthood with a family, I was still active in sports. To be able to do those things was important, and I was fine until the hip issue came, and then I couldn't do it anymore. It was too painful.
I couldn't sit, stand, or lie down without pain. It was there. It was my constant companion.
And when the hip pain got so bad, it kept me awake at night, I realized I needed to do something.”
“I went to the doctor to see if I could get some physical therapy prescribed. And they took X-rays, and they said, no, no, no, physical therapy is not going to help this.
Your ball and socket doesn't have any cartilage in between, and, in fact, the ball is chipping off, so you have all these little particles in there on one side, and the other side is much better. I made an appointment and went in…
And from that point on, everything Dr. Harris and his crew did was just amazing.”
And I followed the instructions, went in for the hip replacement. The next day, I went home and did the walker for the first day. Did the walker the second day.
The third day, I came out to get my coffee, went to the coffee machine to get my coffee, and my husband said, "Where's the walker?" And I said, "Oh, I forgot it."
And from that point on, I walk without pain, now.
The first time in a really long time, no more pain.
You know, you think about climbing stairs where you push up with your foot, and really how much hip action there is there. I didn't think about it. Just could do. It was no big deal.
Not only am I able to be active now, but I'm active without pain, and there is nothing I can't do.
So I am grateful not only to him, but his whole staff, because they're all on the same page. If I had a concern, all I had to do was call.
The whole purpose for hip replacements is to allow you to do the things you'd like to do, because when you're in pain, you can't do those things you like to do.
And so I'm really grateful. I have have my life back.”
